ARE WE CYBORGS?
COURSE                  History and Theory of Architecture |  The Bartlett School of Architecture
SUPERVISORS        Nuria Alvarez Lombardero, PhD

DESCRIPTION

When looking at an entanglement between humanity and technology, it is interesting to begin by reviewing the long history of human exploration on the 'direct relationship between people, machinery and technology', which could be interpreted as 'cyborg'. Less than two centuries ago, Leonardo da Vinci started this exploration by creating an interesting drawing of mechanical components laid out to mimic the human anatomy order titled 'Robot'. Then, in the early 19th century, cyborgs came in a far more literal visualization in the form of a humanoid figure.

Now, when our physical appearances are still very much 'normal' and our daily-use powerful machines are just in the size of smartphones, will it be relevant to compare ourselves to the features of cyborgs?
